Easy catamarans are
specifically designed with amateur one off construction in mind. They are
all double chine ply composite construction featuring fixed keels and
fixed spade rudders. They are masthead cutter rigged and most are powered
by 2 x 9.9 hp Yamaha outboard motors mounted in pods off the inboard side
of each hull. By making these choices we arrive at a boat well suited to
short handed sailing by a husband and wife crew. It will take the beach
easily with no risk of damage, and retractable motors ensure great sailing
without the need for excessively large rigs that are hard to handle and
pay for. Hull shapes are long and slim, therefore easily driven. When you
compare Easy’s to other boats, pay attention to the displacement figures
more than just the length, because it is here that the true story is told.
For a given displacement your easy will be longer than most –they are big
little boats. Displacement relates much more directly to cost than length.

Our design parameters were fairly straightforward. We
wanted cruising boats that performed well and looked good, without being
overpoweringly large, costly or complicated. Everything on board has to
earn its place and simplicity of systems is valued. We wanted a protected
cockpit for the crew, without the layered cake approach, hence the turret
cabin compromise.
The mast head cutter with twin
furlers is a fantastic cruising rig, allowing the boat to run dead square
with main fully out, and easy reefing from headsail to working jib.
