Sarah
This
is the current project being undertaken at the house of Snell. Sarah (named for
our esteemed offspring) is a development of our much loved 11.6. Bumped up to
12m this boat is a different shape to the other easys. The normal waterline
chine common to all other boats has been moved up and out, resulting in a little
knuckle in the middle of the topsides. Underwater shapes are flatter aft, but
still retain the fine entry common to the other easys. The results of these
changes are a greater internal volume for the same waterline beam, and a cunning
sheet placement that actually makes the thing easier to build. This is a feature
that Peter is particularly pleased with, being essentially a very practical man.
This happy result was not sort after, but rather appeared as a result of desired
changes, which somehow makes it sweeter. The computer tells us that the
performance of Sarah will be better than the 11.6 due to wl length, while
carrying another 400kg of payload. Build weight of both boats should be the
same. These fine adjustments to designs only come from building, owning and
sailing our boats over a long period of time. Computer design is only the
beginning of the story. As designers, we are more than happy to invest our own
money into the development and refinement of our boats and believe that this is
what makes easy catamarans so popular.
Sarah will be a great looking package and should have the best legs of the fleet – the namesake daughter sure has.
